On Thursday night, during Town Meeting, Billerica Fire Chief Anthony Capaldo was recognized by the Department of Defense for accommodating military reserve service.

During the afternoon on Wednesday, April 25th, the Billerica Fire Department received a call for a house fire at 30 Oak Street. First arriving companies confirmed a working fire and it wasn't long before a 2nd alarm was struck. Companies working on scene included all Billerica Engine Co.

Over the last few weeks, the department has responded to multiple brush fires that have required a 1st Alarm assignment. For brush fires, that includes 2 engines and our Brush Truck (Engine 6). Since Engine 6 is primarily used in or near the woods, many residents have not witnessed it in action.

The map currently displays fire responses in 2012 which includes structure fires, structure content fires, vehicle fires, and outside fires that impacted structures.

On Thursday, March 15th, at approximately 2:53pm, the Billerica Fire Department responded to a hazardous materials incident at 900 Middlesex Turnpike. The incident involved a box truck carrying many hazardous chemicals that began producing a white haze. The first arriving company requested the Billerica Fire Department HazMat Response Team to the scene along with a state response.

The Professional Fire Fighters of Massachusetts regrets to announce the Line of Duty Death (LODD) of Brother Matthew Smith, Danvers Fire Fighters IAFF Local 2038.  Brother Smith, at age 45, lost his battle with occupational cancer on March 8, 2012. Matt is survived by his wife Meg and his 12 year old son Shane.

The Billerica Firefighters Local 1495 regrets to report the death of retired Billerica Fire Chief Harry Martell Jr., father of Billerica Fire Captain John Martell.

The Billerica Firefighters IAFF Local 1495 has its own Facebook! Our facebook page has been created to provide information to Union Members, residents, and other IAFF locals.

On Friday, February 10th at approximately 7:41am, Billerica Engine 3 was dispatched to a home for an animal control issue. On arrival, firefighters found a goose had broken through a window and was inside the home. The situation was mitigated and the news story can be seen through the link below.

On Wednesday, February 8th, at approximately 1:15pm, the Billerica Fire Department received a call for a structure fire at 6 University Lane. A 2nd alarm was struck and out of town mutual aid companies assisted with the operation. The cause of the fire is under investigation. One resident was evaluated by EMS on scene and released.

On Sunday, February 12, at 10 a.m., a Memorial Mass will be held at the Oblates Novitiate House, 486 Chandler St., Tewksbury, to mark the 40th Anniversary of the Lowell Gas Co. tragedy. The public is welcome to attend. The memorial is being co-sponsored by the Tewksbury and Billerica Fire Departments.

Billerica Firefighter Keith McDonald was awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (DMSM) for service during an award ceremony in Kabul, Afghanistan on Jan. 12, 2012. SFC Keith McDonald has served as the Fire & EMS noncommissioned officer in charge for Task Force Yankee, 26th “Yankee” Brigade, Massachusetts Army National Guard, in Kabul since April 15, 2011.
